Brown lentils are one of the most common varieties of lentils. They are a bit smaller than other lentils and a bit firmer and are excellent at holding their shape during cooking. They are dark-brownish edible seeds from the legume family. Their high protein value makes them an excellent meat alternative and unavoidable ingredient in vegetarian and vegan diets. Brown lentils are also an excellent source of folate. Unlike other legumes, soaking before use is not required, making them suitable for fast meals.
Cook for up to 30 minutes or until tender.
Lentils can be sprouted easily. Add them to various dishes, soups and stews or even try them in salads and sandwiches.
