Rye is the most widely cultivated crop after wheat worldwide. Believed to have originated from Turkey and Afghanistan where it grew as a weed in wheat and barley fields before it was recognized as a valuable crop. For a long time was referred to as ''poverty grain''.
Use to prepare various salty and sweet dishes or combine them with other foods. Rye flakes are often used as an addition to puddings, soups, muesli, fritters, cakes and cookies. Their mild taste goes well with dried and fresh fruit.
