Spelt is a grain with a long cultivation history. Cultivated in Asia 5000 years B.C., spelt is considered to be precursor of today's wheat with all of his original characteristics. Spelt grits are obtained from whole spelt grain, including outer layer and core which are both great in nutritional value.
Spelt grits are incredibly nutritious being high in fibre and providing a good source of iron, manganese, potassium, zinc and B vitamins. They are often more easily digested than other forms of wheat and many people with wheat intolerances have been able to tolerate spelt. Spelt is not gluten free, therefore those who are celiac should still avoid it.
Great option for nutritious breakfast or dinner. Perfect match with dried fruit, cacao powder and chocolate. With just a little bit of creativity, spelt grits can become great ingredient in your delicious and healthly meals with vegetables and other grains.
For more traditional appproach, add grits to hot milk and whisk continuously for 2-3 minutes. If desired, add sweetener of your choice just before serving.
